Law in Television and Film

Partner Mark Silver is teaching an undergraduate course in the spring 2022 semester at the Florham Park campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University – “Law in Television and Film: How Television and Film Shape and Affect the Public’s Perception and Expectation of the Legal System.”

Says Silver, “Lawyers have been depicted in television and film since the creation of the media.  These depictions influence the public’s perception of the profession. As is true with most things that are cyclical in nature, as public perception has changed over the decades, those changes affect the ways lawyers are portrayed. This class seeks to study the depictions of lawyers and the law throughout history. It will explore how those depictions shape public expectation (including juries and clients) and an attorney’s abilities to do their job while living up to the code of ethics.”
