Elton John Bozanian is a Partner in the Elder and Special Needs Practice Group as well as the Estate, Gift & Charitable Planning Practice Group and the Estate and Trust Litigation Practice Group. For nearly 30 years, Elton has represented private clients in a broad range of matters, including but not limited to: defense of persons charged with violating local, state, and federal criminal and traffic laws; state and federal civil litigation; bankruptcy proceedings and adversary litigation; residential and commercial real estate and transactions; family law proceedings; estate planning, administration, and litigation; and guardianship actions. Elton has successfully litigated and tried to verdict many high value, high conflict, complex divorce, guardianship, and estate actions as well as many criminal actions.
Elton is an approved R.1:40 family law mediator and is a volunteer Chair of the Bergen County Mandatory Early Settlement Panel. He has been appointed to mediate and arbitrate guardianship and estate disputes as well as dozens of guardianship actions as attorney, guardian ad litem, and temporary guardian pendente lite. Elton has served as committee chair for several Bergen County Bar Association (the “BCBA”) sections, including Mental Health, Elder Law, Probate Litigation & Guardianship, General Equity.
Elton is a Director of the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (“NJ NAELA”) and is a regular presenter before groups including the NJSBA, ICLE, the New Jersey Association for Justice, NJ NAELA, the BCBA and numerous private legal, financial, and clinical professionals on topics which include fiduciary issues, guardianship, estate planning, administration and mental health in the law. He has participated as one of six mentors and panelists in the Bergen County Guardianship Mentorship Program, which was launched in 2024 by a joint effort of the Bergen County Surrogate’s Court and the BCBA and continues to mentor lawyers in the guardianship and fiduciary space.
Most of Elton’s practice is dedicated to serving as fiduciary, litigating fiduciary actions, or resolving fiduciary disputes. He serves as agent, attorney-in-fact, and/or health care proxy for individuals who seek an independent person to act as their fiduciary. He frequently serves as court appointed attorney, pendente lite and plenary temporary guardian, temporary and permanent estate administrator, and guardian ad litem pursuant to R. 4:86 and R. 4:26. Elton has been appointed to make end of life decisions and serves as plenary guardian for several incapacitated adults. Most of the matters he handles involve complex and sensitive legal, financial, and emotional issues; substantial assets; high profile individuals and families; and extraordinarily high conflict among parties. Elton acts in a variety of fiduciary roles and represents private parties in matters of similar character. He renders estate planning services and advice to individuals and couples.
