Joanne L. Butler Presented Three Topics for Lawline: Bullying, Communications, Mental Health
Partner Joanne L. Butler presented three School Law presentations for Lawline.
On December 18, Joanne presented “Bullying: From the Villainous ‘Scut Farkus’ to the Groundbreaking ‘Mallory’s Law.’” School bullying, whether on site or through the internet, has become a significant issue for school districts and their lawyers. This webinar focused on the laws about bullying, address ways in which lawyers can work with schools to prevent or reduce bullying incidents, investigate bullying complaints, and best practices to provide support to the victims and determine consequences for the bullies.
On December 18, Joanne presented, “The Communications Conundrum: What – How – and When to Stop.” This program focused on the most productive and liability-reducing ways School Board Members and Educators should communicate among themselves, with parents and out in the community. Joanne highlighted potential pitfalls in communications efforts and how they can impact the school community as well as the personal and professional lives of those involved.
On December 19, Joanne presented “School Law Mental Health Issues.” This program addressed how lawyers can work with schools to ramp up their efforts to respond to and, ideally, minimize the mental health difficulties endured by children following the COVID-19 pandemic.
