Recruiting & Employment Opportunities

2. How We Recruit

We recruit primarily from the top ranks of law school classes and from judicial clerkships. We look for high academic and non-academic achievement, initiative, compatibility, and a variety of backgrounds and talents. We look to recruit people who both share our values and, over the course of their careers, will work to enhance the firm's core values and commitment to excellence, congeniality and collegiality.

Each fall, we visit law schools, participate in job fairs, and accept resumes as part of our process to hire for summer and entry-level positions. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit a resume, law school transcript, and writing sample for review. Submissions may be made either by mail or electronically to kvh@spsk.com.

A candidate who is invited to our offices generally will meet and interview with four or five lawyers during a visit of approximately three hours. The visit will include a tour of our offices and some of the history of the law firm. Interviewers who meet with an applicant submit evaluation forms to the Recruiting Committee for further consideration.

As a general rule, we attempt to notify interviewed applicants within two weeks after the interview, by telephone or e-mail. Similarly, we try to respond to submitted resumes and to inquiries within two weeks. During the busy fall hiring season, this process can take a bit longer. While we try to respond to candidates as quickly as possible, we also want to carefully consider all of the candidates' individual qualities - both tangible and intangible - in making our hiring decisions.

Students who receive offers of employment are provided ample opportunities to obtain additional information about the firm or to revisit our offices to help them make informed decisions. We hope every candidate takes the time to evaluate and consider us with the same degree of thought and consideration that we give to evaluating them.

Schenck, Price, Smith & King is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to recruiting a diverse group of lawyers. Moreover, we believe it is important that our lawyers and staff reflect the multi-cultural diversity of the world in which we practice. Minority law students are certainly encouraged to consider a career at Schenck, Price, Smith & King.
