Edward J. Trawinski
Edward J. Trawinski is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King’s Business Law Department as well as the Commercial Restructuring and Workouts Practice Group and has served as a member of the firm's Management Committee. He also is a member of the firm’s Management Committee. His practice centers on all types of real estate, land use and corporate transactions, financing, construction, environmental matters and leasing. A licensed, instrument-rated pilot, he also practices in the area of aviation regulatory law.
Mr. Trawinski joined the Kean administration in 1988 as Assistant State Commerce Commissioner. While in Trenton, he directed programs designed to promote job growth and economic development and supervised the overall administration of the Department of Commerce and its offices of Economic Research and Legislature Liaison. Mr. Trawinski served as the lead negotiator for New Jersey’s team for entities moving into the New Jersey waterfront development areas and chaired or served on numerous commissions to help promote the economic development of New Jersey small business and enterprise zones. He served as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Urban Enterprise Zone Authority, special bond counsel to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and counsel to the Boonton and Hasbrouck Heights Planning Boards. Mr. Trawinski also has served as counsel to the Fair Lawn Planning Board, Public Advocate for Paramus’ Zoning Board, Bergenfield Planning Board and special counsel to the Teaneck Planning Board. He has published and lectured extensively on corporate and land use topics. He is an Assistant Counsel to the New Jersey Planning Officials and a member of the New Jersey League of Municipalities Land Use Drafting Committee. He is also a lifetime member of Madison Who’s Who. He is a member of the Bergen, Morris, New Jersey State and American Bar Associations together with the Aviation Committee and Land Use Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Lawyers-Pilots Bar Association.
Committed to community and political activities, Mr. Trawinski served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor and currently serves as Councilmember of the Borough of Fair Lawn. He is a past member of the parish council of St. Anne’s Church and continues to serve as a member of the parish finance council as well as a trustee of the parish. He is also a recipient of the Meritorious Service Award from the New Jersey Department of Commerce Division for the Development of Women and Minority Owned Small Businesses. He is a founding member of the Morris County Economic Development Corporation and served as the first chairman of its Board of Directors. He has served on the Board of Directors of Downtown NJ, Inc., and as an advisory member of the Bergen County Economic Development Council. He serves as Trustee on the River Road Improvement Corporation.
After earning a Bachelor of Arts in History from Fordham University, Mr. Trawinski received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in 1974 and a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University Law School in 1979. He is a 1992 graduate of Leadership NJ.
Mr. Trawinski was recognized in 2005 and 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of New Jersey’s “Super Lawyers”*.
