Michael G. Serafino
Michael G. Serafino is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP and a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Construction Law Practice Group . Mr. Serafino’s primary areas of practice include construction law and litigation, commercial construction contracts, complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage litigation and professional malpractice defense. Mr. Serafino has particular expertise in all areas of construction law and is a frequent lecturer on construction law topics.
Starting with initial planning and design up through project close-out, Mr. Serafino can assist clients in all aspects of the construction process. Mr. Serafino is dedicated to providing exceptional construction project advisory services and dispute resolution, from counseling the client through the bidding process and potential protest issues, to drafting front-end bid specifications, to negotiating contracts, to analyzing, resolving and preventing disputes during construction. In the event that litigation arises or becomes a necessary element of the construction project, Mr. Serafino also has extensive experience in all aspects of construction litigation, representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors and construction managers in the defense and prosecution of various claims, including acceleration and delay claims, performance and payment bond issues, municipal mechanic’s lien claims, scope of work questions, change order claims, improper design claims, and claims for defective workmanship.
After serving a year-long judicial clerkship with the Honorable Anthony J. Parrillo of the New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, Mr. Serafino joined Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP in 2003. Mr. Serafino earned his law degree from George Mason University School of Law in 2002. While attending law school, Mr. Serafino interned at the White House in the Domestic Policy Council of the Executive Office of the President, providing legal and policy analysis of various constitutional issues, including campaign finance reform, gun control, and the death penalty. Mr. Serafino earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College in 1999, and assisted in founding one of the largest volunteer organizations on campus - the Campus School Volunteers - which aids severe special needs children, and received the Public Service Award for his outstanding commitment to the Boston College community.
Mr. Serafino is admitted to practice law in New Jersey, the District of Columbia, and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He is also a member of the Morristown Club, the CATO Institute, the Order Sons of Italy in America, and the Nutley Chapter of UNICO National. Mr. Serafino was recognized in 2008 and 2009 by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of New Jersey’s Rising Star, Super Lawyers” for Construction Litigation.
Mr.Serafino was recently elected to a leadership position in the Construction Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
