Monica E. Peck
Monica E. Peck is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King’s Business Law Department. Ms. Peck chairs the Firm’s School Law, Labor and Employment Practice Group. Ms. Peck represents numerous public school districts as general counsel handling the full range of school law issues including personnel, business, construction, bidding, academic programs, and student issues. In addition, Ms. Peck has recognized expertise in the area of special education matters and is often called on to counsel clients regarding legal resolutions to complex program and placement matters. Ms. Peck represents school districts before the Office of Administrative Law, the Department of Education, State and Federal courts and agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Civil Rights. Ms. Peck also serves as special counsel to school districts regarding special education/ Section 504 matters and the investigation of sexual harassment complaints.
Ms. Peck regularly lectures and provides in-service programs on subjects such as staff evaluations, sexual harassment, post-referenda construction issues, confidentiality of student records, Section 504, student discipline, and special education issues. She has served as a presenter and panelist for the New Jersey School Boards Association at its Spring and Fall School Law Forums, the New Jersey School Administrators Association, the New Jersey Special Education Administrators Association, the New Jersey School Nurse’s Association, Columbia Teachers College doctoral program, and for Lehigh University’s special education programs. Ms. Peck is a vice president-trustee of the New Jersey Association of School Attorneys. She is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys, and the National Organization on Legal Problems in Education. For several years, Ms. Peck has been named a “Super Lawyer” in her field of practice by a poll of more than 30,000 New Jersey attorneys.
Ms. Peck is a 1979 honors graduate of the Seton Hall University Law School. While at Seton Hall, she served as the Associate Editor of the Seton Hall Law Review, publishing a case note and receiving the Appellate Moot Court Best Brief Award. After graduation, Ms. Peck served as judicial clerk for the Honorable Robert Tarleton of the Superior Court of New Jersey and as mediator for the Essex County Alternative Dispute Resolution program.
Ms. Peck was recognized in 2005, 2006,2007, 2008 and 2009 by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of New Jersey’s “Super Lawyers” * in Schools and Education.
