Basil F. O’Connor is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King’s Tax, Trust and Estate Department. He concentrates his practice in the areas of estate and succession planning, taxation and administration of trusts and estates and litigation in probate courts throughout New Jersey and New York. His clients include individuals, corporations, financial institutions and non-profit organizations.

Mr. O’Connor frequently lectures for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education and before professionals in the legal, banking and financial communities. He is a co-author of New Jersey Probate: Beyond the Basics, published by the National Business Institute. Mr. O’Connor is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law and Elder Law Sections. In addition, he is a member of the Inheritance Tax Rules and Regulations Committee. He is a member of the Sussex County Bar Association and a member of the Northern New Jersey Estate Planning Council. Mr. O’Connor served as an attorney with the Internal Revenue Service after graduation from law school, specializing in the taxation of estates and trusts. Among his responsibilities was instructing IRS attorneys and agents in technical areas including fiduciary income tax, estate and gift tax and the annual course on recent developments. Prior to joining Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP in 1998, Mr. O’Connor was associated with several major New Jersey firms, most recently as a partner and Chair of the Trust and Estate Department of a Newark firm.

Mr. O’Connor serves the community as a co-chair of the Board of St. Clare’s Hospital Foundation. He also serves the legal community as a member of the Probate Early Settlement Panels in Essex, Union and Morris counties and recently completed four years of service to the District VA Ethics Committee in Newark.

Mr. O’Connor is a 1972 graduate of Rutgers College and received his law degree from New York Law School in 1975.

Mr. O’Connor was recognized in 2005, 2006 and 2008 by New Jersey Monthly magazine as one of New Jersey’s “Super Lawyers”..
