Michael J. Marotte
Michael J. Marotte is a partner with Schenck, Price, Smith & King’s Litigation Department. He specializes in complex litigation and has tried over twenty-five Superior Court cases to conclusion. Mr. Marotte served as lead counsel in a toxic tort lawsuit in Federal Court involving over five hundred plaintiffs. He is co-chair of the firm's Insurance Coverage Practice Group and is also a member of the Construction Law and Products Liability Practice Groups. Mr. Marotte serves as New Jersey insurance coverage counsel for several insurance companies, providing counsel on all matters relating to first party property, third party liability, directors and officers and excess insurance coverage. He represents insurers in coverage litigation and against bad faith/extracontractual claims. Mr. Marotte also serves as general counsel for several New Jersey companies, providing general corporate counseling.
Mr. Marotte achieved an AV rating, the highest rating conferred by Martindale-Hubbell for legal ability and professional ethics based upon a peer review of the Bar and the Judiciary in 2002. He is the former Mayor of Byram Township and served on the Township Council from 1999 to 2003. Mr. Marotte also served on the Byram Township Planning Board from 2000 to 2003 and was the chairman of the Byram Township Smart Growth Committee.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering with honors from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1987, Mr. Marotte worked for several years as a chemical engineer for a major petrochemical company. He received his EIT Certification from the State of New Jersey in 1989. He received his J.D. degree from Rutgers Law School in 1992.
